About Us
We live in rough terrain at 3,000 feet above sea level in southeastern Montana with our very large flock of pearl gray Guinea fowl and our two dogs.
Our German Shepherd is a 115 pound male named Buddy. Bella, our Akita, is a 95 pound female. Both are rugged ranch dogs. Buddy is an excellent herding and protection dog. Bella likes to think she is helping with herding, and we let her think that, but she is unsurpassed at protecting the property and the animals here – including the Guinea fowl and humans.
We have a large organic garden, and the Guinea fowl were originally acquired to be working animals, which they absolutely are. But, as Guinea fowl will do, they wormed their way into our hearts and are now practically pets as well as the masters of pest control. We do not name our Guinea fowl, with a couple of exceptions, and we pretty much let nature take its course with the flock. But we spend a lot of time with the birds taking photographs and musing at their endless and entertaining antics.
We earn our living with computers and cameras. We live as green as we possibly can. We have one old cell phone from 2008 that we buy minutes for as we need them – 100 minutes lasts about a year. The nearest neighbor is ½ mile away. The nearest town is 35 miles away. A trip to town starts (and ends) with 22 miles on a gravel road – we only go once every 10 days or so.
We like Guinea fowl, taking photographs, computers and writing – hence our Guinea fowl website. And yes, we know that the website URL: "Guineafowlbirds" is somewhat redundant, but it was the best of the names available that started with "Guinea fowl."
